Many in our local live music community know Carey Goodall KC as a talented musician who generously donates his time to charity, or as a prominent legal mind. But recently, Carey took on his most profound role yet: primary carer for his darling wife, Margie, following her diagnosis with younger-onset dementia at the age of fifty five.

Published this month (May 2026), That’s a Nice Giraffe is his fiercely honest, heartfelt, and raw account of love, loss, and endurance over a seven-year journey. It tracks the reality of day-to-day care; from managing short-term memory loss to navigating the heartbreaking decision to transition Margie into full-time residential care.

This small, profoundly moving book is an accessible mix of real-life experience, humor, deep sadness, and grief. While everyone’s care journey is different, it serves as a powerful, practical companion and roadmap for husbands, wives, children, and friends wondering what lies ahead. By sharing their story so transparently, Margie’s journey becomes a beautiful testimony, not just a test.
